Job Summary

The primary focus of this new role will be to support the molecular biology team with the screening pipeline, utilising a range of molecular biology techniques and routine handling of NGS samples. This role will require someone who thrives in a flexible and team-based environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation of genetically encoded libraries, utilising a range of molecular biology techniques and manipulation of E. coli
  • NGS library preparation and sequencing of samples (ONT and/or Illumina), and basic downstream analysis
  • Delivery of routine molecular biology experiments, to assist in the day-to-day running of the molecular biology department
  • Documentation of work via electronic lab books (ELNs) in an accurate and timely manner

Minimum Qualifications and Experience required

  • PhD or Masters/Bachelors in a Life Science subject such as Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or related field (Masters/Bachelors qualified applicants must have the relevant lab experience).
  • A proven background gained in molecular biology techniques is essential, such as PCR/qPCR, DNA extraction/purification and cloning
  • Knowledge of the principles and applications of NGS
  • This role requires the individual to demonstrate   attention to detail, with the ability to document procedures and results accurately and in a timely manner

Desirable experience

  • Experience in bioinformatic tools, including basic knowledge of coding languages such as python
  • Experience gained in NGS sample handling, in particular ONT and Illumina technologies, would be highly beneficial
